The following sub themes will be examined in this context:

The integration of immigrants: Including concepts of inclusion, diversity, (post ethnic) civic nationalism in Europe and North America, examination of experience in the southern peripheries of Europe and the US from Northern African countries into the EU and Latin American countries to the US. Studies of urban experiences including the lo cal consequences and management of migration, service provision, diversity management, neighborhood relations and political participation on lower levels.


The development of sustainable migration policy regimes: including an examination of the consequences of the currently applied "welcome the skilled, rotate the unskilled"-policy of most Western countries.

  • Migration, civil liberties and security: including the nexus of migration, terrorism and crime in Europe and North America.

  • Data analysis: Analysis of survey research data on attitudes relating to migration, perception of immigrants and the economic impact of migration in western societies.
