Staff Directory
Dr. Stephen F. Szabo is the Executive Director of the Transatlantic Academy (TA). As Executive Director, Dr. Szabo works with the partners of the TA to shape the research content of each term, to assist in the recruitment and selection of Fellows and to manage the Academy. Prior to joining GMF, Dr. Szabo had been with the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, where he served as Academic and Interim Dean as well as Professor of European Studies. Prior to that he had served as Professor of National Security Affairs at the National Defense University and Chairman of West European Studies at the Foreign Service Institute, U.S. Department of State. He has written on German foreign and security policies, generational politics in Europe, and transatlantic security and political relations.
Education:
Dr. Szabo received his PhD from Georgetown University in political science and a B.A. and M.A from the School of International Service, the American University.
Languages:
He speaks fluent German in addition to his native English.
Honors:
He has held Fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the American Academy in Berlin.
Nicholas S. Siegel
Nicholas S. Siegel is the Program Officer with the Transatlantic Academy. Mr. Siegel organizes conferences and study trips, manages the Academy’s blog and website, oversees the Academy’s budget, and engages in additional program development and coordination. Prior to joining GMF, Mr. Siegel served as Assistant Director of the Transatlantic Program at the Atlantic Council. Before that, he worked in the history department at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Austria, and interned at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
Education:
Mr. Siegel holds an M.A. in advanced international studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and a B.A. in History, English Literature, and German Literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Languages:
He speaks fluent German and Spanish, as well as some Catalan, in addition to his native English.
Erica Cameron
Erica Cameron is the Administrative Assistant to the Transatlantic Academy. At the Academy, Ms. Cameron provides administrative support to the fellows and assists with budgeting and coordination of affairs.
Education:
Ms. Cameron holds a bachelor's degree in public relations with a second concentration in business administration from West Virginia University.
